AasPaas

Community-powered local place discovery.

  1. 01

    Overview

A community-powered directory of local shops, services and places — added, verified and corrected by the people who actually use them, not by the businesses themselves.

  2. 02

    Problem

Most local directories are filled in by the businesses being listed, so entries go stale and self-serving. AasPaas inverts that: place data comes from the people who actually visit, with verification and correction built into the core flow instead of bolted on later.

  3. 03

    Architecture

Next.js App Router with TypeScript throughout, Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui for the interface, MongoDB Atlas for storage. Search runs through a dedicated parse-query → build-query → rank pipeline. Trust and moderation are first-class — duplicate detection, spam scoring, submission cooldowns and a moderation queue sit alongside browse/search/add-place, backed by Mongo-backed rate limiting.

  4. 04

    What shipped

V1 covers anonymous search, registration and authentication, adding and moderating places, contributor stats, suggest-an-edit and reporting, geolocation-based “near me” search with Leaflet maps, and moderated photo uploads via Cloudinary. A full pre-launch hardening pass audited every planned security mitigation before going live. Business claiming, social features, monetization and scale-out infrastructure are deliberately out of scope for this version.
